The Community of Squatted Prosfygika in Athens is at risk of eviction from the Greek state. Since 2014, Prosfygika has given shelter to refugees and migrants from different countries where they, together with Greek people, have built up a new life. But Profsygika is much more than a social project – for more than 10 years, it has exemplified in practice that a different world is possible – self-organized living in solidarity. The project has become a symbol for resistance against the marginalization of people because of class and origin, a place where nationalist and class-based stereotypes and oppression are contested through every-day practices. Today, it is home to around 400 people. You can see a film from 2021 about Prosfygika here.
Since the 5th of February, our comrade Aristotelis Chantzis, a member of the community, is on a hunger strike until death, in resistance against the eviction of Prosfygika.
In times where the revolution in Rojava is under attack, comrades are evicted and displaced from their homes, murdered and imprisoned by the different nation states, international solidarity is more important than ever.
We stand in solidarity with Aristotelis, all members of Profsygika and our Greek comrades who fight to protect their home, a space of solidarity outside the capitalist logic of the nation state.
